Flamingo Facts
- They don't exist in North America unless you see them in a wildlife reserve
park or else a zoo. Then again, there are the pinkus lawnis, or the plastic lawn
ornaments seen from west coast to east coast.
- Flamingos live in lagoons, lakes or mud or water. They don't live there for
food but to nest.
- Flamingos get their brilliant color from their diet and not from their
heritage.
- Flamingos live in large colonies that could reach tens of thousands.
- There are six active species of Flamingos. Fourteen species of Flamingos are
extinct.
- The largest Flamingo can be over six feet tall. The smallest is only three
feet tall.
- There are no feathers on a Flamingo's face. Instead it has a abrupt downward
black beak that filters water to absorb nutrition.
- Flamingos are popular birds! Despite the fact that they're loved, little is
really known about them.
- Flamingos worst enemies are... man. The destruction of their habitat forces
larger groups to gather together in a harsher environment.
- Despite the fact Flamingos live in Africa, they also live high in the Andes
Mountains of South America.
